To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the cinema release of the first chapter of Peter Jackson's trilogy, Monnaie de Paris will unveil a collection of precious coins dedicated to the legendary Lord of the Rings series in 2026. 

From the Shire to Mordor, the perilous journey of the Fellowship of the Ring is now engraved in metal, celebrating a mythical saga that has become a true pillar of the fantasy genre.

The engravings on these coins were created by the engraving workshop at Monnaie de Paris based on illustrations from the visual styleguide of the film The Two Towers.

The design of this coin takes the form of a duel between the two forces present in this second opus. On one side is the wizard Saruman, who betrayed the cause of Men to join his new master, Sauron. His growing power and sprawling influence over human peoples is represented by the tower of Orthanc, the seat of his unnatural experiments, which will see him single-handedly create an army capable of destroying humans. On the other side is Aragorn, who, throughout the story, will shed the guise of Strider, the Ranger, to take on that of war leader. He will prove to be a unifying force and will bring the people of Rohan (found on the map of Middle-earth in the background) together to resist the threat of Saruman's army.

The reverse of this coin depicts the One Ring, towering over the Eye of Sauron and enhanced by selective gold plating. The secret inscription on the Ring in Elvish is revealed here by the flames of Mount Doom. Each reverse is engraved with the coin's face value, the hallmarks of the Monnaie de Paris, the letters RF (French Republic), the year 2026, and the New Line Production copyright relating to The Lord of the Rings saga.
