100 years of movement. 100 years of connection.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of SNCB-NMBS… 100 years as a central link in Belgium’s transport network. Since 1926, the National Railway Company of Belgium (SNCB-NMBS) has played an essential role in Belgium’s economic and social landscape, with a clear ambition: sustainable and accessible transport for everyone.

SNCB-NMBS will be celebrating its anniversary throughout 2026 with a host of activities. The coming months will be dedicated to music and culture, and two of the workshops will be opening their doors to the general public on an exceptional basis. There will be plenty of opportunities to get to know the railways and SNCB-NMBS in a different way, to share stories and to celebrate together what connects us today and tomorrow.

100 years and the journey continues…

This first 2-euro coin from 2026 is available in ‘Brilliant Uncirculated’ (BU) quality, ‘Proof’ quality and ‘Reverse Proof’ quality. The BU edition is presented in a themed coin holder designed to mark the centenary of the SNCB. 

In addition to the now well-known Proof version, limited to just 4,000 copies, a particularly sought-after collector’s item is being added to the range this time: the Reverse Proof quality. In this version, all the raised elements are polished to a high shine and the flat background is matted for a distinctive effect. These coins are also set to be a great success abroad.
